Yaye Chericho

The story

Yaye Chericho is not a single farm but a collection of smallholder farmers located in the Arbegona woreda of the Sidama region. The Yaye washing station, which processes these coffees, was established in 2021 to coordinate cherry collection and quality preparation for hundreds of local smallholders. The station operates in partnership with Faysel Abdosh and Catalyst Trade.

Challenges

The region faces difficulties related to its high-altitude terrain, which necessitates slower cherry maturation and requires precise coordination for cherry collection across hundreds of smallholder farms.

Innovations

The Yaye washing station is noted for its focus on experimentation and quality, utilizing specialized fermentation barrels and dedicated infrastructure to produce distinct processing profiles like black honey.
