Variedad Colombia is Cenicafé's multiline, leaf-rust-resistant selection developed from Caturra and Híbrido de Timor and released in the 1980s. Tim Wendelboe documents its strong yield potential and Caturra-like cup quality at Finca Tamana.
The first rust-resistant variety released in Colombia, named for the country itself; later reselected as Castillo and Timor-line generations improved. When the 2008-2011 epidemics hit, the Colombia variety was already protecting thousands of farms.
Often similar to Caturra, with possible herbal aftertaste. Very ripe picking at Finca Tamana emphasizes caramel, chocolate, and red fruit.
Compact and productive, suited to dense planting.
Harvest security: resistance means the difference between a crop and a catastrophe in rust years.
