JARC 74158

An Ethiopian Arabica selection released through the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre program. SEY identifies the exact Alo Lot #1 as a single-variety 74158 coffee.

Where did it come from?

74158 traces to the Metu-Bishari selection work in western Ethiopia and was released for cultivation around 1979. The selection program prioritized yield potential and resistance to coffee berry disease.

What does it tend to taste like?

Process and site dominate. SEY’s dry-fermented honey lot is described with florals, tropical fruit and tamarind.

Plant characteristics

Directly relevant summaries describe a medium-sized plant with dark-green leaves and small-to-medium cherries; public specifications vary and should be treated cautiously.

Why producers grow it

For coffee berry disease resistance, yield potential and suitability to high-elevation Ethiopian production.
