Abana Estate

The story

Abana Estate was founded in 2009 by Peter Omran, who leveraged his background in humanitarian aid to establish a coffee farm in Ethiopia. The estate is currently managed by his sons, Michael and Chris Omran. The name Abana, meaning 'our fathers' in Arabic, serves as a tribute to the heritage of wild Arabica coffee indigenous to the region.

Challenges

The farm operates in an area that was historically impoverished, requiring significant investment in local community infrastructure and social support systems.

Innovations

The estate utilizes a water-recycling wet mill and maintains an old-growth forest canopy to preserve the local ecosystem. They also implement specialized processing techniques, such as whole-cherry fermentation, to enhance the flavor profile of their lots.
