Mabono community-managed processing station

The story

The Mabono station was developed through the efforts of Mountain Harvest, an organization that identified potential in the isolated community. With the support of a grant from Counter Culture Coffee, the community built the processing station to move beyond subsistence farming and improve their coffee quality.

Challenges

The community faces significant logistical hurdles due to its remote location, requiring coffee to be transported by foot or bicycle over rugged roads to reach the processing station.

Innovations

The station utilizes a community-run processing model and implements honey processing techniques, which were introduced to the local farmers by Mountain Harvest to increase the value and quality of their harvest.
