Klasik Beans is a prominent Indonesian coffee cooperative based in Puntang, West Java, recognized as a pioneer in the country's specialty coffee movement. Founded by Eko Purnomowidi, the organization focuses on environmental conservation and the regeneration of defunct coffee-growing regions. They are widely regarded as a learning center for coffee activists and farmers globally.
History
Klasik Beans emerged in the late 2000s with a mission to revitalize historical coffee-growing areas like Puntang that had fallen into disuse. The cooperative was born out of a commitment to reforestation following a 2004 landslide tragedy in West Java, which highlighted the dangers of deforestation. By providing training to local farmers and implementing modern processing techniques, they helped catalyze the specialty coffee boom in Indonesia.
