The story

The farm was established in 1874 by Jesús Aguirre Panamá, who initially cultivated sugarcane, corn, beans, and tobacco. In 1900, the family transitioned to coffee production, naming the estate after a native fruit. The farm remains family-owned and operated, currently managed by the third and fourth generations of the Aguirre family.

Challenges

The farm operates in a complex mountainous terrain in Huehuetenango, requiring meticulous management to maintain quality across diverse micro-climates. They also face the ongoing pressure of maintaining environmental sustainability while producing high-end specialty coffee.

Innovations

The farm is recognized for its commitment to sustainable farming, including the maintenance of a large protected natural forest reserve. They have pioneered specific processing techniques and are noted for their focus on high-quality varietal selection, having won the Cup of Excellence 1st place award eight times.
