Finca El Puente

The story

Finca El Puente was established by Marysabel Caballero and her husband Moisés Herrera. Marysabel is a multi-generational coffee producer who inherited the trade from her family, with her great-grandfather beginning coffee farming in 1906. The couple formed a direct partnership with roasters in the early 2000s to manage their collection of farms near Marcala.

Challenges

Coffee producers often face the precarious economic reality of growing a crop that generates significant profits for others while they struggle to maintain financial stability. Additionally, producers assume the risk of potential damage and defects when experimenting with new, non-traditional processing methods.

Innovations

The farm utilizes slow-drying techniques, including low-temperature drying in Guardiolas for 72 hours or the use of shaded raised African beds. In 2020, they redesigned their processing facilities to significantly reduce water consumption and improve sustainability.
