Maracaturra

Maracaturra is a Central American Arabica variety believed to have arisen from a natural Caturra by Maragogipe cross in Nicaragua.

Where did it come from?

World Coffee Research describes Maracaturra as a likely natural cross between Caturra and Maragogipe. Initial selections were made by Nicaragua's INTA in 1976, but the variety was never stabilized.

Plant characteristics

A large-bean, vigorous variety related to Caturra and Maragogipe. Because the population was never fully stabilized, individual plant performance can vary.

Why producers grow it

It is selected for large beans, plant vigor, and quality potential.
