From the producer

This lot combines coffee from 161 smallholder farmers in Bombe Chilaka, Hamasho, and Keramo. They grow the coffee; Daye Bensa's Hamasho station receives and processes their cherry.

From the roaster

George Howell Coffee lists this as a limited January 2026 harvest, sold in an 8 oz bag for $40, with Drip as the published brew method.

Why this coffee is noteworthy

One of the site's clearest examples of separating farmer, station, exporter, and roaster roles. The exact lot documents farmer count, villages, elevation range, harvest, fermentation time, washing, drying duration, package size, price, and cup notes.

The honest process breakdown

WHAT DID THEY ACTUALLY
DO TO THIS COFFEE?

01
Selection

Ripe cherry was handpicked, floated, and sorted for density and defects.

02
Depulping and fermentation

Cherry was depulped and held in a sealed anaerobic environment for 72 hours.

03
Washing and drying

The coffee was washed, then dried on raised beds for 10 to 13 days with regular moisture checks.

What was added?

No yeast, fruit, spices, or flavoring additions are disclosed.

What wasn't added?

No post-roast flavoring or co-fermentation ingredient is documented.

Why it matters

The controlled oxygen-free stage is an added fermentation step within an otherwise washed workflow.

What you might taste

Candied lemon, syrupy nectarine, and jasmine, according to George Howell Coffee.
