Parainema

Parainema is a compact, Sarchimor-related Arabica variety developed in Honduras. It is a pedigree selection of T5296, released by IHCAFE in 2004, with high yield potential and strong leaf-rust resistance.

Where did it come from?

World Coffee Research identifies Parainema as a Sarchimor-related, introgressed Arabica selected from T5296 by the Instituto Hondureño del Café (IHCAFE) and released in 2004.

What does it tend to taste like?

Lot- and process-dependent. Verve's washed Baide release is described with red apple, yellow peach, and dark chocolate.

Plant characteristics

Compact growth habit, green leaf tips, large beans, and very high yield potential according to World Coffee Research.

Why producers grow it

Its compact stature, high yield potential, and resistance to leaf rust and some nematodes make it agronomically useful while capable of specialty-quality lots.
