The Kanzu washing station processes cherries from smallholder farmers who typically manage fewer than 200 trees each. The region provides an ideal environment for coffee cultivation, characterized by a lush ecosystem and mineral-rich volcanic soil.
The roaster describes Kanzu as a private wet mill buying from about 60 local farms situated in high altitudes with volcanic soil.
This lot makes a smallholder supply chain legible: French Mission Bourbon from about 60 farms is centralized and processed at Kanzu, with the exact region, harvest, process, altitude range, and cup profile documented.
WHAT DID THEY ACTUALLY
DO TO THIS COFFEE?
Linked the existing Western Province, Rwanda record and retained Nyamasheke as the release’s subregion.
Kept Kanzu washing station and its approximately 60 contributing small farms without inventing individual farmer or farm records.
Recorded Washed processing plus published fermentation and even-drying statements while leaving the undisclosed technical details unknown.
Excluded cross-harvest product ratings and historical discussions from the 2025 release’s public-sentiment score.
Western Province relationship, Bourbon relationship for the documented French Mission Bourbon designation, June–July 2025 harvest, current $29 price, four editorial sections and structured unknown-field explanations.
No individual farms or growers, point elevation, formal grade, process timing, drying surface, roast date or public sentiment score was inferred.
The profile now shows the full disclosed supply chain—smallholders to Kanzu washing station—without collapsing a regional Bourbon name into an unsupported new genetic variety or mixing older reviews into the current lot.
A full-bodied, sweet and balanced cup with dark chocolate, plum and orange, according to George Howell.
