From the producer

Claudia Abril and Max Pérez began rehabilitating the abandoned Finca La Hermosa parcel in 2010. The farm now includes a quality laboratory, a poultry operation and a trial plot containing more than 30 rare varieties.

From the roaster

Counter Culture Coffee is a specialty roaster based in Durham, North Carolina, known for its focus on transparency, sustainability, and direct relationships with coffee producers. They emphasize quality through rigorous cupping and education.

Why this coffee is noteworthy

A subscriber-exclusive separation of an orange-ripening Bourbon mutation from Finca La Hermosa’s rare-variety trial plot. The old URL handle says Pink Bourbon, but the live title, harvest panel and variety field consistently identify Orange Bourbon.

The honest process breakdown

WHAT DID THEY ACTUALLY
DO TO THIS COFFEE?

01
Orange Bourbon separation

The coffee comes from the farm’s rare-variety trial plot and is identified as Orange Bourbon.

02
Washed processing

Coffee fruit is removed before drying using a traditional washed process.

03
Light roasting

Counter Culture uses a light roast to preserve the lot’s fruit brightness and creamy sweetness.

What was added?

No flavoring agents are added; Counter Culture explicitly identifies its notes as sensory descriptors.

What wasn't added?

No fruit, spices or post-roast flavoring are disclosed.

Why it matters

Variety separation and washed processing make it easier to taste the orange-ripening Bourbon mutation without confusing it with the farm’s Pink Bourbon release.

What you might taste

Plum and cherry with creamy milk chocolate.

What the internet is saying about this coffee

Research complete — no qualifying reviews yet

Same coffee, different roaster?

Other roasters, same producer.

These coffees come from the same producer or farm, offered by other roasters. We never automatically declare two offerings the exact same coffee — a match requires lot, harvest and traceability details. Even a true same-lot pair can taste different: roast approach, freshness, rest and brewing all reshape the cup.
