Cerrado Mineiro is the savanna highlands of northwest Minas Gerais — a flat, mechanized coffee landscape of some 55 municipalities that became the first coffee region in Brazil to receive a Denomination of Origin, in 2013, and the first to hold both an Indication of Origin and a Denomination at once.
The region's defining condition is climate discipline: well-defined wet and dry seasons mean the harvest window arrives dry and predictable, an unusual luxury in coffee. Altitudes run roughly 800 to 1,300 m — modest by specialty standards, which is precisely why the Denomination is strict: to carry the Cerrado Mineiro DO, coffee must be specialty-grade (80+ points) Arabica grown above 800 m within the region's boundaries, then traceably verified back to the farm.
Production is estate-scale and technology-forward: mechanized harvesting, irrigation and traceability systems are the regional norm, and the DO program — run by the region's grower association with the federal certification behind it — has made Cerrado Mineiro a case study in verifiable origin for Brazil's commoditized coffee economy.
Mundo Novo and Catuaí are the workhorse varieties, and the harvest runs roughly May to September, the Brazilian winter — approximate dates that vary with the year. In the cup, the trade's consensus profile is full-bodied and sweet with caramel, chocolate and nut tones and a gentle citric acidity — a documented regional tendency, and every lot is farm- and season-specific.
What makes Cerrado Mineiro distinctive is institutional: it proved a Brazilian region could build a protected, quality-gated identity on traceability rather than on mythology.

These are documented directory relationships, not independently verified farm visits or lot traceability. Follow individual profiles to inspect available sources.
