Pink Bourbon

Pink Bourbon is the trade and field name for a prized coffee type strongly associated with Huila, Colombia. Although the name historically implied Bourbon parentage, SEY’s cited genetic reporting identifies tested material as Ethiopian Landrace and says the database is not yet large enough to specify its lineage more narrowly. Its pink-ripening cherries and floral, fruit-forward cups remain important field and market identifiers, but the name should not be treated as proof of a Bourbon-family pedigree.

Where did it come from?

Pink Bourbon became prominent among producers in Huila and spread through specialty-focused farms under a name based on its pink-ripening cherry. Its precise genetic history remains unresolved; recent buyer reporting cited by SEY places tested material within Ethiopian Landrace rather than confirming Bourbon parentage.

What does it tend to taste like?

Floral and silky — jasmine and stone fruit, tropical sweetness, wine-like complexity in skilled hands.

Plant characteristics

Medium-sized tree with conical growth and pink-ripening cherries; requires ongoing seed selection because trees can revert toward red or yellow forms.

Why producers grow it

Its distinctive floral-tropical cup commands some of the highest microlot prices in Colombia, which rewards the extra labor of selection and lower yields.
